DO YOU WANT TO PLAY A GAME?
No really do you, because this party game is awesome! Our printable horror movie trivia party game is the game your horror buff friends will be dying to play. It is a treasure hunt using clues that test your friends knowledge of the classic horror films ( Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Child's Play, It, Saw, Hellraiser, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, etc..) using trivia, brain teasers, picture puzzles and more. There are 20 clues in all, each treasure hunt clue leads to the next until they reach the "treasure" or "die" trying.
This game can be played cooperatively (all in one group) or players can race against each other in a competitive version. Once a player/team solves one clue it will provide the clue to where to find the next.
We created this Horror Movie trivia treasure hunt using our signature unique style that allows the host to be able set it up anywhere without having to use generic hiding places. So whether your event is taking place at home, or in the woods, in a cave, on a train, in a school, or across an entire town - you can play this ANYWHERE.
Each team starts out with a Clue Master which you fill in ahead of time to let players know what locations might be hiding a clue. There are 20 hiding places where clues will be hidden, the other 30 spaces are for Death Tokens to be hidden - Death tokens let players know they got the answer wrong, more details in the Death Tokens section below. Once you determine 50 hiding locations you can edit this sheet and type them in. Then you simply follow our instructions as to which number locations you hide each clue and each Death Token. Voila - you are ready to start the hunt!
How do the players use the Clue Master?
The answer to each clue is a number, so when players solve a clue (or think they solved the clue) they then look up that number on their Clue Master. If they believe the answer to a clue is 4, they look to see what location is listed next to number 4 on their Clue Master - they then go to that location and search to find their next clue.
If they are correct they will find the next clue there, if they are wrong they will be lead to a decoy location where they will find a Death Token.
This continues until they have solved all 20 clues. The last clue will lead to the the YOU WIN card and any treasure you choose to use for the grand prize!
ALTERNATIVE TO HIDING CLUES: Instead of hiding spots you can tape numbered envelopes to a wall. Players solve the clues as they normally would, but the envelopes would replace the hiding locations. If they solve the clue correctly the envelope they choose will have the next clue. If they choose the incorrect answer then the envelope they open will contain consequence cards with funny or challenging dares players must perform in order to try again. The envelope that is the correct answer to the final clue will hold a message telling where the treasure is hidden.
ALTERNATIVE TO TREASURE HUNT: Instead of hiding the clues and having players find each clue one at a time you can divide your players into teams and give them each all 20 clues at once. The first team to get the 20 numbered code (the answers to each of the clues) correct first wins!
There are multiple types of puzzles, games, and trivia cards that are used as clues throughout the hunt. There are two VERSIONS of the 20 set of clues. The original set and an easier set - you can choose which version works best for your group.
Death tokens are what are found when players get an answer wrong and choose the wrong location to look for the next clue.
Technically, you don't have to include the death token element to the game. If you only have a handful of players it may not be practical. Death tokens are an addition that add a level of excitement to the game.
Basically it creates a penalty for getting an answer wrong, yes players can continue the game and try a different answer but they lose one of their team members - this creates a desire to try a little harder to get the answer right the first time.
OPTIONAL: Some host like to give teams a way to earn back lost players by letting them take bonus challenges during the game. These challenges are decided and created by the host. Sometimes its a game of chance, a game of skill, or more horror movie trivia. If the player or team win the challenge they also win their team mate back. Sometimes host even make this a gamble, if they win they get their teammate back, but if they lose they lose another team mate. This is completely optional, but something to think about.
