Our printable Christmas Movie trivia treasure hunt is another fun addition to our Christmas Party Printable Games. Test your guests knowledge of their favorite holiday flicks with a treasure hunt that will have them racing from clue to clue trying to be the first to solve all the challenges.
This printable treasure hunt includes a variety of clues made up of themed trivia, puzzles, and games. Every clue is filled with a variety of trivia and each challenging clue leads to the next until all 22 are solved and players find the "treasure". The treasure can be whatever you want it to be, or just bragging rights.
This game can be played cooperatively (all in one group) or players can race against each other in a competitive version. Once a player/team solves one clue it will provide the clue to where to find the next.
This Christmas game can be enjoyed by kids, teens, and adults - and is perfect if you have a party with different age groups. Divide players into teams and let the fun begin.
We created this Christmas movie trivia treasure hunt using our signature unique style that allows the host to be able set it up anywhere without having to use generic hiding places. So whether your event is taking place at home, or in the woods, in a cave, on a train, in a school, or across an entire town - you can play this ANYWHERE.
Each team starts out with a Clue Master which you fill in ahead of time to let players know what locations might be hiding a clue. There are 22 hiding places where clues will be hidden, the other 60 spaces are for Try Again cards to be hidden. Once you determine 60 hiding locations you can edit this sheet and type them in. Then you simply follow our instructions as to which number locations you hide each clue and each Try Again card. Voila - you are ready to start the hunt!
How do the players use the Clue Master?
The answer to each clue is a number, so when players solve a clue (or think they solved the clue) they then look up that number on their Clue Master. If they believe the answer to a clue is 4, they look to see what location is listed next to number 4 on their Clue Master - they then go to that location and search to find their next clue.
If they are correct they will find the next clue there, if they are wrong they will be lead to a decoy location where they will find a Try Again card - see TRY AGAIN section below.
This continues until they have solved all 22 clues. The last clue will lead to the the YOU WIN card and any treasure you choose to use for the grand prize!
ALTERNATIVE TO HIDING CLUES: Instead of hiding spots you can tape numbered envelopes to a wall. Players solve the clues as they normally would, but the envelopes would replace the hiding locations. If they solve the clue correctly the envelope they choose will have the next clue. If they choose the incorrect answer then the envelope they open will contain consequence cards with funny or challenging dares players must perform in order to try again. The envelope that is the correct answer to the final clue will hold a message telling where the treasure is hidden.
ALTERNATIVE TO TREASURE HUNT: Instead of hiding the clues and having players find each clue one at a time you can divide your players into teams and give them each all 22 clues at once. The first team to get the 22 answers correct first wins!
Our Hunt Includes 12 Trivia Question Clues, and 8 Visual Puzzle Clues. Each visual puzzle clue is completely different type of clue from the other, and will each be solved in a different way, but below are three from this hunt. There are 8 puzzle clues in all, the other 14 clues are Christmas Movie trivia questions. A few examples of those are also below.
ANSWER: SOAP - the soap is #56. Once players determine the answer is soap, they would look at their Clue Master and find what location is written next to #56. This is where they would look for their next clue.
For this clue players would fill in the famous Christmas movie quotes and then unscramble the letters underlined in red to discover the next clue number. They would then look up that number on their Clue Master to determine where to find their next clue.
For this clue players would simply find and mark out all the words in the word search, the remaining letters spell out the next clue location. As you can see on the solved example on the right the answer is TWENTY SEVEN. Players would look for their next clue in the location marked on the Clue Locator sheet as #27.
The above examples are our straight trivia questions. The number next to the correct answer is the location that players look for their next clue at.
Try Again cards are what are found when players get an answer wrong and choose the wrong location to look for the next clue.
A fun thing to do is add a consequence for every card found. Some choose a silly action or other like to make a team eliminate a player for each wrong answer.
Technically, you don't have to include the Try Again element to the game. They are a fun ideas to add a level of excitement to the game and creates a desire to try a little harder to get the answer right the first time.
OPTIONAL: Some host like to give teams a way to earn back lost players by letting them take bonus challenges during the game. These challenges are decided and created by the host. Sometimes its a game of chance, a game of skill, or more Christmas Movie trivia they must answer. If the player or team win the challenge they also win their team mate back. Sometimes host even make this a gamble, if they win they get their teammate back, but if they lose they lose another team mate. Again, this is completely optional, but something to think about.
